The map below shows one possible trip in southern Spain.  You can fly or take the train to Seville, a convenient airport. You can then rent a car and drive or take the train.

A car does you no good at all in the cities. If you are going to focus on the cities take the trains - they are reliable and fast.  You do need a car to visit the small mountain towns.

You can fly into Europe on many different airlines. Put some effort into it to find affordable air fares. I like Kayak.com to compare air fares, but there are carriers that do not participate in Kayak.

Air fares around Europe used to be very high but now discounted carriers have made flying very affordable. One of the most popular is Ryan Air.
